Rev. Alston is a lifelong resident of Jersey City, New Jersey.  She is a product of the Jersey City Public School System.  She attending PS #29, Ps#15 and Graduated from Henry J. Snyder High School.

Rev. JoAnn Alston is Senior Associate Minister of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. Eddie Spencer IV, Senior Pastor.  Rev. Alston is the Minister of Christian Education and Discipleship.  Since her tenure at Mount Calvary, Rev. Alston has developed a New Membership Manual.  Rev. Alston is responsible for preparing two annual leadership institutes for the Mount Calvary Family. She is responsible for training of old and new teachers. Rev. Alston as the coordinator for Vacation Bible School has designed and develops her own curriculum.  Rev. Alston also coordinates the feeding of the seniors and the Homeless every first Saturday before the first Sunday.

CEO Calvary Cares After School Program.  Instrumental in starting the Back-to-School Celebration which is now in its 20th year.  Rev Alston was trained in Detroit, Michigan for the teaching of Christian Education by the late Dr. Fredrick G. Sampson, Tabernacle Baptist Church.

She has been blessed to preach aboard The Carnival Cruise Ship in the Caribbean.

Rev. Alston is a member of the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs’ where she served as statistician.  She is also a member of the Northeast Region Federation of Women’s Club and has served as Recording Secretary and Regional Chaplain. Past Northeast District President, Club President – Love, Hope & Charity.

 Rev. Alston is Newly Elected Trustee, State Chaplain, Legislation Chairperson and 21st Past State President of the New Jersey State Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs and Youth Clubs.   Rev. Alston facilitates a Field trip every year for 90 to 100 students to tour the State House and meet with their Representatives.

She is listed in Who’s Who for Women, Business, and Teaching.  Rev. Alston after her second year of teaching received the Rev. Elijah Hendon Teachers Award.
